PPG Provides Sungate Infrared Reflective Fixed-Glass Roof For Ford Mustang

Ford Motor Co. becomes first manufacturer to feature PPG's fuel-saving technology
DETROIT, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) is helping Ford Motor Co. become the world's first car manufacturer to feature a panoramic glass roof using Sungate infrared reflective (IRR) technology. The fixed-glass roof rejects more than 95 percent of the sun's infrared energy while allowing more than twice the visible light of a conventional glass roof, providing a unique "open air" look to the vehicle. The rejected infrared energy keeps the car interior significantly cooler and contributes to fuel savings when the air conditioner is running.

A Primer on Gasoline Prices
Gasoline,
one of the main products refined from crude oil, accounts for just
about 17 percent of the energy consumed in the United States. The
primary use for gasoline is in automobiles and light trucks. Gasoline
also fuels boats, recreational vehicles, and various farm and other
equipment. While gasoline is produced year-round, extra volumes are
made in time for the summer driving season. Gasoline is delivered from
oil refineries mainly through pipelines to a massive distribution chain
serving 168,987 retail gasoline stations throughout the United States.1
There are three main grades of gasoline: regular, mid-grade, and
premium. Each grade has a different octane level. Price levels vary by
grade, but the price differential between grades is generally constant.

Combining errands into one trip
saves you time and money. Several short trips taken from a cold start
can use twice as much fuel as a longer multipurpose trip covering the
same distance when the engine is warm. Trip planning ensures that
traveling is done when the engine is warmed-up and efficient.
With a little planning, you can
avoid retracing your route and reduce the distance you travel as well.
You'll not only save fuel, but also reduce wear and tear on your car.
