The Ford Mustang is an automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Production began in Dearborn, Michigan on March 9, 1964 and the car was introduced to the public on April 17, 1964 at the New York World's Fair. The Mustang created the "pony car" class of American automobile — sports car-like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks. Although some other pony cars have seen a revival, the Mustang is the only original pony car that has remained in production without interruption after four decades of development and revision.
The iconic status of the Ford Mustang can be attributed to several major factors, including its lasting hallmarks of great looks and performance combined with affordability – as well as it’s starring roles on the big screen. But, for enthusiasts who have nurtured this image, the legend of Mustang began on the racetrack and grew quickly over four decades of dominating performances.
The Mustang has grown into one of the favorites for modifying for performance. Carroll Shelby was an early modifier of the Mustang creating his Shelby GT350 in 1965. Others have joined in to make our Mustang ownership experience fun - BOSS Designer Larry Shinoda, Steve Saleen, Jack Roush, Dario Orlando of Steeda and others have graced the Mustang with performance enhancement and styling packages that make the Mustang more than just another coupe.
